Why I'm a Photographer

People often ask me why I became a photographer.

The truth is...

It was never really about the camera.

It was about people.

I've always been fascinated by the little things most people overlook.

The quiet glance between a husband and wife.

A child absentmindedly reaching for their mom's hand.

The way a dad looks at his daughter when she isn't paying attention.

The family dog weaving between everyone's legs, convinced they're part of every conversation.

These moments happen in seconds.

Most people never even realize they occurred.

But I see them.

And once I do, I can't unsee them.

I Don't Photograph Perfect Families

I photograph real ones.

Families that laugh too loudly.

Toddlers who refuse to sit still.

Teenagers who swear they don't want to be there but end up having fun.

Parents who worry their children are "misbehaving."

Dogs who think every stick is worth chasing.

Because that's what real life looks like.

And real life is beautiful.

The Older I Get...

The more I realize how quickly life changes.

Children grow.

Parents age.

Pets leave us.

Homes change.

People we love aren't always here as long as we imagined.

Photographs become one of the few things that allow us to return to a moment we can never live again.

They're proof that we were here.

That we loved.

That we belonged to one another.

I Think Everyone Deserves to Be Seen

Not the polished version.

Not the version that's lost ten pounds.

Not the version that's waiting for life to calm down.

The real version.

The one who kisses scraped knees.

Makes pancakes on Saturday mornings.

Carries sleepy children upstairs.

Laughs until they cry.

The version your family already loves.

Because that's the person they'll want to remember.

Someday...

Your children won't care if your hair was perfectly styled.

They won't notice the wrinkles you worried about.

They won't remember whether your shirt was on trend.

They'll look for you.

Your smile.

Your laugh.

The way you held them.

The way you looked at them.

The feeling of being loved.

That's what photography preserves.

This Is My Why

I don't believe photographs are decorations for your walls.

I believe they're part of your family's history.

They're how your grandchildren will know your face.

They're how your children will remember the home they grew up in.

They're how ordinary Tuesday afternoons become priceless memories.

Every time I lift my camera, I know I'm photographing something that will never happen exactly the same way again.

That's an incredible privilege.

And it's why I still fall in love with this work, session after session.

Because long after the toys are gone, the house has changed, and the children have grown...

These photographs will still remind you what it felt like to love—and to be loved.

That's why I'm a photographer.
